CALL for abstract “A scientific approach to understanding historically used materials Conveners”
While working in a field of conservation of cultural heritage in Albania, we often face the absence of opportunity to scientifically examine the samples of traditional mortar/plaster, timber and similar. The key stones setting the methodology required to follow-up while planning for scientific analysis required for getting readable and useable results for further conservation actions are necessary to be established.
The expertise for commencing delicate analysis of historical materials that exist in Albania would be revealed and drawn upon while informing professionals about the existing possibilities as well as of the importance of an interdisciplinary collaboration.
Some of the keynotes that would be delivered through this session would include material sampling, results of analysis conducted on pigments using X-Ray technology, microscopy, particle size analysis, geologic referencing of historically used materials, etc. The experience on conducted analysis as well as importance of including it into proposals for architectural and conservation of artifacts would be reveled by specialists from Institute of Monuments Protection. The on-site assessments required for rapid mortar segregation or preventive conservation would as well be discussed and introduced to the audience.
